Adding an Event (Post)

Starting an Event

  1. Start off by visiting the main site: http://local.stopclimatechaos.org and ensuring that your event doesn’t already exist.
  2. Login to the events site by visiting http://local.stopclimatechaos.org/wp-admin
  3. Select sign in with a password at the bottom of the page
  4. Sign in by entering your Username and Password
  5. You will now be directed onto the dashboard
  6. On the left is a thin side bar, starting with Dashboard as a title.
  7. A little lower is the title Posts
  8. Click on Add New under Posts
  9. You will be able to upload your own post.

Writing a post

  1. Focus on the centre and right sidebar whilst writing your post.

Event Title

  1. At the top of the page there is a white bar. Click in the box to type in your event title.
  2. Please ensure that your title is written as follows: Location, Event Name

Event Details

  1. Underneath that bar, there are lots of little images and a white text box. This is where you can type in the event details
  2. On the top of the images, make sure that the ‘Visual‘ tab is selected (it will be darker). You can select it by clicking on it. This will allow you can see what you are writing and format the page accordingly (without writing any code!)
  3. Click on the large white text box to add in your event details.
  4. To format these text entries you can use the images above. To find out what each image is, you can hover over them and a little explanation box will pop up.

  6. If you want to add a map to your location, type in [geo_mashup_map] where you want the map on the event article

Event Date & Time

  1. Scroll down to the header entitled Event Editor to edit the event time and date.
  2. Click on the button underneath it containing a ‘+’ button.
  3. Edit the date and time of the event by clicking on the … buttons next to the start and end dates which will have now appeared.
  4. The date is the one you select on the calendar.
  5. The time (24-hour) can be changed by clicking on the numbers at the bottom and holding it down. To make the event later, slide to the right and to make it earlier, slide to the left.

Event Location

  1. To add the event location, you have two options: (Essential!) clicking on the right category – region – for your event, and (if you’d like) adding a map.
  2. Firstly on the right sidebar there is a title called Categories. Please click box of your most relevant location. If this is a city, please click on the county and region that this event is located. If it is a county, please also click on the region. Please don’t add a new category.
  3. To add a map, look again at the centre column and scroll down to Location. In the search box type in the postcode/address of the event, followed by “, UK”
  4. You may then see lots of pins. Make sure that the pin that is a different colour (or the only pin) is the one that over where the event is taking place.
  5. If it is not in the right location, you can drag your pin onto the right place.

Tags

  1. Add tags to your event to mark out what the event is and what it addresses. This is right above the Categories box in the right sidebar and entitled Post Tags.
  2. Click on the Choose from the most used tags in Post Tags link.
  3. Click on the tags from the box that are most relevant to your event.

Publish

  1. Certify that all your event information is correct.
  2. Publish your page by clicking on the blue Publish button. If you would prefer to save your article and publish it later, click on the Save Draft button above the publish date. To access that article later, please read Editing Events

Event Title
